Now I am curious if Electra had virus that was blocking the web site. Formatting the HD and reinstalling everything would definitely be considered cleaning the PC.

Thats the only way, I know of to truely make sure no viruses or spyware exists on a system. Going through all the loops to removing them can take longer than formating and reinstalling. (Depending on what data you have that is)
