Im starting a new pack: Its a dirty space station, first ill make some surfaces for walls ceilings and floors, then ill make some lights and doors etc. With some luck and levelling my 3d skils i might be able to whip up a 3d animation flythrough once the pack has enough textures!

Thanks! I think its a bit too "clean", it would look better with slighter depth in the panels and sharper corners i think, and some more detail (in the handles, vents, small lights, connectors etc) But that would break the tilability a bit, now its apparant already with the stain, but its easy to render out variations by editing the canvas, or rendering the decals out in a separate file and apply in engine.

In terms of depth, you might want to increase the intensity of the highlights and shadows to make the objects appear deeper, however the only issue i see with that is the highlights might wash out some. I am not sure what else i can suggest for the other thoughts. I was thinking perhaps two stain layers, one that is framed around the entire texture with soft edges and one that is center of that with soft edges that blend into the outer second layer. The inner stains, dirt, grime can be different for every panel but the outer remains the same for seamlessness. I would hope that would look satisfactory. I did this myself many time but i can not recall the last texture i used this technique with.

I updated a few of the sci fi textures i made earlier for second life overhere, there are more coming, but this is the first batch. I'm also still working on the dirty space station set, but i'm also quite busy with school (having a hard time programming (well more learning to program than actual programming i'm afraid)

I got a bit sidetracked, but the I'm happy with how it turned out, its a bit different from the style of the earlier textures, but here goes:

Feel free to swap patterns, some pretty neat results can pop out. Some things I found challenging here were the pipes/circuitry and the aligning of the depth in the layers, its not spot on, but the results are OK. (Now the top panels appear to float a bit over the metal grid, like they could fall off easily)

I made renders of the effect maps and the environment used on my blog: http://kay-vriend.name/

It also has a slightly tweaked GTX. (Slightly smoother surface and a better specular map)

Enjoy!

Thanks! Glad to hear you like it!

Blogging has been decent so far, around 30 visits per day average, at most I had around 600 on one day when my blog was featured in the newsletter (thanks!) and sometimes less then 1 ;-P. I decided to post smaller packs more often to generate a bit more traffic. It's a bit ad-heavy now but that's in order to keep it in the air.

I didn't see your reply haha. I'm still playing with the pack, but so far I've been fought up in some indie work. So I'll release it at some point in the near future.
