If I have a group with a reference in it, I have the option to animate the slot number.  But when I animate the slot, nothing happens.

Related, is it possible to animate an adjuster?

Can you post a gtx? It may be easier to understand what you try to do.

Concerning your second question I think the answer is no but the adjuster can have animated qualities with him.

See attachments.  I want to use an animation on the REFERENCE to select the input for the group.

I've worked around the problem by pre-rendering the group items and used a batch swap.

I think it make no sense to animate the reference node.

Don't no what you want to do, but in a hurry i came out with this:

I am looking to combine sets of images together.  Set one has 16 images and set to has 8 images.  The result is 128 distinct images.  The solution was to set image 1, then batch swap on the first 16.  Set image 2, repeat.  Doing a lot of these by hand is time consuming, but if I can animate a reference in a group, then I can quickly generate all 128 images with some stepped animation curves.
