Welcome! I just answered your email from a couple days ago.

In Topic: Technical Question: Preview Rendering

Rendering happens on the CPU.

What happens if you try to construct the elements of your texture in a different order? What if you set up the gradient that's giving you trouble before you set up anything else?

Up to Genetica 3.6, the version you are using, the interface is indeed extremely bright. Unfortunately there's no UI option to modify the brightness, although it was dimmed somewhat in Genetica 4.

That's correct. Our intention is for you to be able to freely use Wood Workshop image output in your projects.

That's not correct. As you quoted from the EULA: "You may freely use, modify, copy, and distribute Presets." The Wood Workshop EULA states that Spiral Graphics owns the presets, but it still gives you the right to use and distribute them (as long as your actions don't contradict our ownership of the presets).

Automatically generated maps can be a bit arbitrary since it's just a preset technique being used rather than an artist making specific decisions about which part of the texture is more "metallic" or more "rough". I'd just try slapping a Colorize or a Frequency node under whatever you're using to generate your specular or bump maps and play with it a bit until you find something that looks good in your shader.
